Thoughts about Giving

I have learned in my personal Christian journey and ministry in church that this is so true - just so true. Why can't we share and give freely? Why can't I share and give freely too?

Because we are basically selfish?
Because we are afraid that if we share freely and others do not reciprocate, we will end up with nothing?
Because we wonder whether others will use wisely and responsibly what we "give" ?
Or...Because we feel we might be taken advantage of?
Or...Because we could use what we give to dictate and control others to our benefit?
