Why Pastor/Seminary Lecturer Should be on Facebook
Alex Tang provides 9 reasons why pastors should be on Facebook. I would like to add that seminary lecturers should be on Facebook too. In addition to the reasons listed by Alex, I think I could add that if lecturers in seminary participate in Facebook, we can discuss aspects of our lectures with our students, engage with them and, who knows, we might even attract some potential students.

well, i am a facebook user, and i use it almost daily!
facebook is great for networking, esp. if all your friends are highly mobile people who live at different parts of the world at different time.
your e-albums and news posts will allow you to keep each other informed on your recent moves, and share your moments of life virtually.
however, be VERY careful abt the gossipping nature of facebook too! facebook will NOT alert you on any new articles/long written posts that you load onto it, but it will definitely send email alerts to your friends (and also friends' friends whom you do not know)of your newly released pictures, status changes, short funky comments, etc.
half of my seminary professors & students are on the facebook network. but as i notice, beside dr. andreas kostenberger (NT scholar), who always posts the same stuff he has on his blog on his facebook notes(which facebook neither send any alert to me), others use facebook merely as a platform to chat or gossip(which the facebook never fails to keep me in the loop).
i think that's the reality/ capacity of facebook: a fast platform to get people's attention on you, but not a platform for academic discussions.
i may be wrong on my comment. but that's my two cents' worth.
If writing blog to them is too burden, perhaps facebook is good to start, but...
Hi Florence,
Yes, I would agree with you about what you say concerning facebook - it's a good networking tool. I mention about the academic discussion merely to provoke some thoughts.
Well, Perng Shyang, you might want to do a promo soon....
I am one of the potential student, attracted by Kar Yong's blog, haha !
but , you might scare away potential students too! becos you appear too chim scholarly!
I am too "chim"? :-)
Hope to see you in STM soon... :-)
