King's College London: Temporary Lecturer in NT

KING'S COLLEGE LONDON TEMPORARY LECTURER IN NEW TESTAMENT
Department of Theology and Religious Studies
School of Humanities

Applications are invited for a fixed-term 0.7fte lectureship in New Testament in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at King's College London, starting in September 2009, for 1 year. The vacancy arises from the award of a Leverhulme Research Fellowship to Dr Edward Adams.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in New Testament or, exceptionally, will be near to completing a PhD in New Testament, and will be able to teach undergraduate courses on Gospels and Letters, Paul in Context, Intermediate Texts in Greek and New Testament Theology, and an MA course on The Passion: Text, History and Representation. You will be expected to take on administrative duties within the Department.

The appointment will be made at Grade 6 point 31, currently £23,041.90 (70% of £32,917) inclusive of £2,323 London Allowance, per annum.

"Yellow" Snow in STM!

It snowed on Maundy Thursday in the seminary - and it was not white but yellow! The tress dropped the yellow flowers and covered part of the campus in a carpet of bright yellow colour. And it "snowed" on gardening day. But I guess divine providence had it that it rained just before gardening time, and gardening was cancelled. If not, pity the students who have to clean up that section of the campus.

Paul J. Achtemeier Award for New Testament Scholarship

The Society of Biblical Literature announces the Paul J. Achtemeier Award for New Testament Scholarship. The purpose of this Scholarship is to "stimulate the finest and most penetrating work in New Testament Studies."

An award of US$1,000 will be given to an SBL member who, in the judgement of the award committee, "submits a paper of publishable quality in New Testament Scholarship; delivers the paper for discussion at an SBL national or international meeting; and demonstrates excellence in New Testament research and teaching."

Another Busy Week Ahead....

Even with the D Min module on Advanced Hermeneutics and Homiletics behind me now, there is still no rest for the wicked budding NT scholar!

For the upcoming week, I still have the Palm Sunday and Good Friday sermons (including a script for a skit for Good Friday) to prepare. With whatever remaining time I can find (apart from the regular teaching responsibilities), I need to complete 3 papers to be submitted to the Evangelical Free Church Malaysia Ordination Committee by April 11 for their deliberation. My ordination interview and examination is now scheduled on April 25.

I am looking forward to my vacation during the semester break in May.

First Historic D Min Module in STM

It has been a great learning experience for me in teaching the first Doctor of Ministry module for the past few days.

There are a total of 20 DMin candidates taking the first modules offered in both the English and Chinese programmes. A total of 15 candidates signed up for the first Chinese module taught by Prof Kung Lap Yan from Hong Kong, with another 5 signed up for the English module.

Today will be the final day for the DMin module. I trust and hope that those who sit in my class would have, in some ways, benefited from the module, and that they have enjoyed it just as I have in interacting with them. It has been very tiring and exhausting, but equally enriching and rewarding for me.

Fancy a High Paying Job as a Pastor?

Sze Zeng blogs about the recent report in the Singapore Straits Times concerning big pay-checks for church leaders there. It is reported that one church leader is paid between S$500,001-550,000 as reported in the church's last financial year report.

Sze Zeng also mentioned that the church is currently hiring. That piece of news got me excited - perhaps I could apply for a higher paying job - finally! But when I checked out the website of the church, I was a bit disappointed. There is no position for NT Scholar or pastor....Looks like I am not needed there!
