Books...books...books...

I have recently just renewed my car's road tax, and received the tax rebate of RM625. So I decided to put the money into good use by getting myself a belated brithday gift. No price for guessing that I bought some books from my wishlist at Amazon.

So this is what I got for myself. I wonder whether my student, Perng Shyang, would be envious of this.

I'm going to be doing an expository preaching series through Luke next year. Any suggestions on the best commentaries to get?

Hi rutter,

I think for common folks of non-charismatics,,,the NIV application series of , Luke by Darrel Bock, seems superb...

Darrel wrote another two books on Luke, by Baker, more of exegetical...KY would love it..ha!

You, satan – attempting to tempt your student to violate the 10th Commandment "Thou shalt not covet thy teacher's books!"

I know it is not the same as having a book in hand where you can turn the pages, make annotations etc but with the price of books so high, (and a lack of space to keep my books properly) I have been focusing on saving up to buy commentaries that are bundled on CDs.

Still trying to get used to it.

KY, Any view on this?

For me it will be more like no books, no books, no books.

Dear Doug,
Davinci has given some suggestions. I think both commentaries by Bock in the NIVAC and BECNT series are excellent. In addition, check out the commentaries by Joel Green (NICNT) and Robert Stein (NAV) too.

Dear Davinci,
Thanks for the recommendation.

My books? Not overwhelming - they are just "collections" made over the years... :-)

I wish the amount would be RM6250... haha..Even that, i would say it is not enough.

Hi Perng Shyang,
Yeah - some of the Eedrmans books arrived - there goes all my book allowance for this year.

Hi SZ,
Can't wait to devour some of the books...!!

Kar Yong said...

Dear Chils,
Sure - can. Not a problem. But I believe the library should already have a copy.

Pearlie,

NO books? Mana boleh?

Kar Yong said...

Dear Edward,
Get thee behind me...:-)

Dear Paul,
I use both e-books and printed books, but would prefer printed ones. The downside of waiting for CDs to be released, it would mean that you have to wait for some years until a substantial commentaries have been published in a series for the publisher to do so. I may not be able to wait that long...:-)
